While Apple was busy rolling out iTunes to dozens of other countries around the world yesterday, it appears that Russia was given some special exclusive content. Russian users have reported seeing pornographic images and links pop up in the Movies section of the iTunes store, specifically in the “more films in different languages” section.
When users attempt to access the section of the store, rather than being greeted with exciting foreign films, users see links and ads that direct to porn and escort sites. A picture of the issue can be seen here (somewhat NSFW).
It’s still unclear as to why exactly this is happening, or when people can expect the problem to be addressed. It’s probably safe to say, though, that Apple isn’t showing the XXX content intentionally. After all, Steve Jobs was once quoted as saying, “Folks who want porn can buy an Android phone”.
