Seven months after Ice Cream Sandwich’s release, the Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx are finally being updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. If you’re unaware, the Droid RAZR line of phones is a high-end line of Android smartphones that were released in late-2011 running Android 2.3. Select users wil be receiving the update starting this week while a broader deployment of the upgrade will be coming over the next few days.
While the Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx’s software will have a whole new look after the update, they will still have Motorola’s custom interface over the Android core. While some Android users may like this, most wish it was absent and will have to wait for a root to be released in order to remove it.
Not only does this update bring Android 4.0 to the Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx, it is making both phones world capable on the Verizon network. World capability is available in 220 countries worldwide (while roaming on Verizon’s network) using one of their international voice/data plans. Currently, a 100mb international data costs $25 per month or $0.02/kb if not subscribed to the 100mb international plan.
