Do you own an iPhone, iPod or iPad?
Do you use Monster headphones with one of those devices?
Has your music not been playing correctly (random pauses and skips)?
Well, you’re not crazy. Internal documents from Apple show that the company is well aware of the problem.
The document states (original screenshot after the quote):
Several Monster headphone models using Apple’s Remote and Mic technology do not meet Apple’s technical specifications. These headphones use conducive flanges, which can result in electrical shorts that cause an iPod or iPhone to pause and play erratically. Customers may not be aware that the issue is caused by the headphones and may believe that the iPod or iPhone is defective instead. There are no known safety concerns and no known risk of damage to the iPod/iPhone or the headphones.
Simply put, the Remote and Mic technology in iOS devices isn’t playing nice with Monster’s headphones. According to a statement from Monster on Boy Genius Report, their headphones with the ControlTalk feature are the culprits. Monster headphone models affected by this issue include the Jamz, Lil Jamz, Turbine Basic, Turbine Pro and Heartbeats.
The fact that the headphones can cause “electrical shorts” in the iOS devices makes me slightly uneasy. As a precaution, I would recommend discontinuing use of Monster headphones with an iOS device until further information is available.
