Today, Microsoft and 343 Industries unveiled a game coming to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 — Halo: Spartan Assault. The game is expected to officially launch this July and could be the first halo application for platforms that run the shared Windows core.
Halo: Spartan Assault is a third-person shooter game that will feature familiar characters seen in many of the series’ other games. If you’re a huge fan of the series, you might experience some feelings of nostalgia as the sound effects from the original installments have been maintained.
The game will work with all Windows 8 touch devices and will sell for $6.99. Spartan Assault, which is set between Halo 3 and Halo 4, consists of 25 missions and 40 achievements and medals to unlock. The gameplay is a training series on board a UNSC ship designed to recreate classic Spartan battles.
Note that if you buy the game for your Windows 8 phone, you won’t be able to play the game on your PC. You’ll need two copies of the game.
Halo: Spartan Assault also features some tie-ins with Halo 4. Players can earn achievements and experience that will transfer over to Halo 4 gameplay.
