After recently coming away with a major legal win in the American courts, Apple has gone and defeated Samsung back at home as well.
A South Korean judge has dismissed a Samsung lawsuit attempting to have Apple’s iPhone 4S and iPad 2 banned for violating Samsung’s patents on “short message display methods” and “messaging grouping features.” Not only has the judge denied Samsung’s request, but he has also ordered the company to pay Apple $95,100 in damages for legal fees. Samsung was also fined roughly $23,800 for having been found to have violated Apple’s “rubber banding” patent.
For those keeping track, that’s roughly another $130,000 Samsung must fork over to Apple, which isn’t actually too bad when you remember that last week the company was ordered to give Apple a total of $890 million.
“We are glad the Korean court joined others around the world in standing up for real innovation and rejecting Samsung’s ridiculous claims,” said Apple Korea spokesman Steve Park.
Samsung says it is still evaluating whether it plans to appeal or not, but either way, this is far from the last time you’ll see these companies together in court.
