I stumbled across this product over at macmod.com and instantly felt sick to my stomach. Sure, we’re more secure then windows, sure I can get viruses, sure OS X is the greatest OS ever built, but a usb key that rapes my machine and steals your dignity along the way is enough to make anyone want to throw up.
Once the MacLockPick software is run it will extract data from the Apple Keychain and system settings to provide the examiner fast access to the suspect’s critical information, that may otherwise be rendered unreadable by modern encryption programs, with as little interaction or trace as possible.
Ugh, I just threw up a little in my mouth. The funniest thing about this is that it’s not for “consumer” use, and only cops can buy it. Yeah, because there is no such thing as corrupt cops, who use their power to help out some buddies. What a joke!
I tend to agree with the commenter on the macmod post. It’s only a matter of time before this gets onto ebay, or someone decompiles it and throws up the source code on some popular torrent sites. Looks like I’ll be locking my mac in my coldwar bunker every time I leave the house.
