Google is continuing on its path to map every mappable thing ever with today’s release that brings ski run mapping to Google Maps. Thirty-eight new “run and lift maps” are now available, covering major ski mountains across Canada and the U.S, the likes of which include “Squaw Valley, Big Sky, or Okemo”.
The maps show the run’s difficulty along the hill in colored lines and chairlifts in red-dotted lines so that skiers can easily plan out their runs before getting to the top of the hill. Simply pull up the Google Maps app on your Android or iPhone and a detailed map for the mountain you’re currently on will come up.
Google has once again taken an interesting and unique path when it comes to updating its Maps software. It’s because of ambitious ideas like Street View and ski hill mapping that Google Maps is one of the most popular and helpful pieces of free software available.
