Apple has lost a key player in their iTunes empire: Alex Luke has been poached by EMI. Luke has played a key role in Apple’s iTunes “Live From” series at Apple retail stores, iTunes Originals, and iTunes’ Single of the Week, according to 9 to 5 Mac.
It’s also being reported that Luke has been appointed to a senior Artist and Repertoire (A&R) position at EMI, making him responsible for scouting and overseeing the artistic development of recording artists. A&R employees usually act as a liaison between the artist and the record label.
EMI poached a competent music man, who was largely responsible for Apple’s success in producing iTunes specific content. Hopefully Apple has someone in the pipeline that can fill his shoes, because if they don’t, iTunes originals will be a little less original moving forward.
