Chillingo and ZeptoLab have created a special holiday edition of their popular game Cut the Rope, and are releasing it for free this holiday season. The premise of the game is simple. Swipe your finger to cut ropes onscreen, and get the candy to the mouth of the cute little monster. Om Nom. Cut the Rope: Holiday Gift features Christmas themed levels, and includes a new Stocking feature that shoots the candy around, and a special surprise if you shake your iPhone or iPad.
Cut the Rope made Apple’s 2010 Top Ten list for Paid Apps, and it is ridiculously addictive. It’s interesting to see developers jump on the seasonal themed games as a marketing tool. It definitely hooked me in, and I purchased the original full game after playing the free holiday themed game.
Rovio did a similar thing with the Angry Birds Halloween Edition, which morphed into Angry Birds Seasons, adding a Christmas themed set of levels in a virtual Advent calendar, where starting at December 1st, each day a new level is unlocked counting up to Christmas. It, however, is not free, nor is it universal.
Cut the Rope: Holiday Gift is available in the App Store and features Crystal and Game Center support.
