Are you satisfied with your boring old white Apple EarPods? Of course not, because what you really need are these pure gold EarPods designed by Apple design wizard Jony Ive himself.
As part of an auction to support the Project (RED) charity, Apple’s senior vice president of design Jony Ive has contributed a number of items that he himself has personally designed/customized just for the event. Ive worked alongside friend and fellow designer Marc Newson to create the one of a kind items.
One item the pair contributed is a pair of 18K solid gold EarPods, which should go great with that new gold iPhone of yours. Also on the list is a custom red and white Steinway & Sons grand piano and a 1966 bottle of Dom Perignon complete with a custom red label and case.
It’s been a fantastic honour to curate this collection of objects with Marc for the auction at Sotheby’s”, said Ive. Each piece represents the value of thoughtful design. What we create for each other is not only a comment on our culture but of course in many ways defines it. (RED) is making a difference in the lives of millions of people and we’re humbled to make this contribution to such an important and worth cause.
To bid on the items, you must go down to the November 23rd auction in New York City. Fortunately for you, you likely don’t have enough money to waste on any of the items included on the list, especially since they’re all one of a kind.
All the proceeds will go towards helping fight AIDS in Africa, so while some people are calling the rumored Gold iPhone 5s “douchey“, these gold headphones are quite the opposite.
