A couple months ago I wrote an article about Apple and gaming. I said that they would eventually compete, if for no other reason than the millions of people already owning the device. I also said that it would be a matter of time before we saw some legitimate games that would actually be able to compete with the DS and PSP. Everyone balked at the concept, and thought that I was flat out wrong. I even introduced the “Wii” factor. I said the concept similarities and possibilities between the Wii and the iPhone could make the iPhone to the DS as the Wii is to the Xbox 360. Starting to see my point?
Brothers in Arms, an iPhone game, has been getting major press today from a number of other blogs who are pretty excited about the concept of the accelerometer controlling the propelling of grenades at your enemies, and you can also use the touch screen to aim and shoot at enemies. I have to admit, I’m just as excited as the rest of the bloggers talking about it right now. Not only does it prove my point that we’re on the cusp of a whole new gaming experience that will be very successful, but it also shows developers willingness to port games from the DS to the iPhone. Whether we like to admit it or not, the bazillion iPhones sold over the last year and a half makes for a lot of potential consoles. The graphics look on par with the DS version as well. Stick around folks, gaming on the iPhone is about to get really interesting.
