It’s certainly been a rough couple years for BlackBerry. Last year the company was forced to layoff thousands of employees as the company drastically tried to cut costs. Now, the company been forced to let go of yet another 250 workers.
BlackBerry confirmed to All Things D that the company let go of another 250 employees this past Tuesday. The employees were all part of a new product testing facility in Waterloo.
BlackBerry spokesman Alex Kinsella gave this comment:
These employees were part of the New Product Testing Facility, a department that supports BlackBerry’s manufacturing and R&D efforts. This is part of the next stage of our turnaround plan to increase efficiencies and scale our company correctly for new opportunities in mobile computing.
While it’s a seemingly small number compared to the roughly 5,000 employees that were forced to leave last year, it’s still a sizeable number for any company. As BlackBerry 10 continues to undersell, we may end up seeing even more layoffs before too long.
