Glassdoor has posted its top 50 list of the best places to work in America for 2014, as voted on by company employees themselves. The list is made up of companies of at least 1,000 employees and includes everyone from Starbucks, to Nike, to John Deere.
This year Apple took 35th spot in the rankings, down from 34th last year, and the company averaged with 3.8 out of 5 satisfaction points. Employees also gave Tim Cook a 92% approval rating based off of 1,152 votes. Here is a list of pros and cons that Glassdoor has generated to sum up all of the employee reviews:
Pros:
- The pros are that you work with great people with great hours and great benefits
- You get to meet a lot of great people since you are always in the public eye
Cons:
- Being relentlessly driven also means it is not easy to achieve work/life balance
- Sometimes long hours because of product launches, but thats the best part of apple
While Apple did crack the top 50, there are a number of other tech companies that fared much better. Twitter took second spot overall, second only to consulting firm Bain & Company. Twitter received a 4.6 out of 5 satisfaction score, and 97% of all employees approve of CEO Dick Costolo.
Following that is Facebook in fifth place, Google in eighth, Qualcomm at 13, Nike at 29, Intel at 33, and Disney at 42.
Apple has a lot more employee reviews than most other companies on Glassdoor, so it’s likely this factors a lot into why it wasn’t able to score higher. Either way, if you ever get offered a nice job at any of these companies you should probably take it.
