Apple has confirmed that it has acquired Burstly, a company that offers products such as TestFlight, an app testing tool for iOS (and formerly Android) developers, and SkyRocket, a tool for developers to manage their in-app ads.
There are still no details regarding specifics of the purchase, including how much Apple paid for the company and what this means for Burstly and its products going forward.
Some confirmed changes brought on by the new acquisition include the discontinuation of Android support for TestFlight, which was announced by the company on Wednesday. (It’s now clear why.) It was also announced that the TestFlight SDK will no longer be offered to any new teams, while existing development teams already using the SDK can continue to so.
Burstly originally acquired TestFlight, which was its own startup, back in Q4 2011. Here’s TestFlight’s product description from its website:
The world flies on TestFlight.
Fortune 500 companies, investors, top publishers, independents, students… from experts to beginners, they’re all here. Most of the world’s developers rely on the TestFlight platform for beta testing, crash reporting and analytics.
