Amazon Invites Select Press To An Announcement September 6th

It looks like we might be in for an update to the Kindle Fire in the coming weeks according to TechCrunch. “Amazon PR has just sent out invites for a press conference next month in Santa Monica. Historically, the online retailer has held press conferences in New York for various Kindle-related launches. The event will take place at Barker Hangar, a 35,000 sq. ft venue that claims to be the largest stage on the westside,” Peter Ha writes.

This is incredibly interesting timing on Amazon’s part. If they announce a new tablet on the 6th, they’ll have six days in the news before Apple will supposedly rock the world with the new iPhone and rumored 8-inch iPad. This is pretty ballsy considering how badly they could be outdone by Apple.

While many are discussing a 10-inch Kindle Fire joining the ranks of the 7-inch Fire, it makes me wonder if the Fire brand was good enough to stick with. Obviously Amazon has something going with Kindle, but the second part of their tablet’s name hasn’t set the world on fire. Perhaps we’ll see a new branding effort. We’ll know soon enough.

So, are you interested in seeing what Amazon will do with its second generation of tablets, or did the lackluster Kindle Fire leave you with a bad taste in your mouth? Sound off by tweeting us: @macgasm. We want to know what you think Amazon’s chances of success are.
