The Pixelmator team has identified a major bug that puts a huge damper on anyone using the app and pushing it pretty hard. According to a new blog post from the Pixelmator team, anyone running OS X 10.8.2 may come into contact with a bug that spontaneously crashes your Mac, and randomly decides to restart your computer.
While Pixelmator has issued a huge apology to its fans and users (I use the app full-time), they have also called out NVIDIA for shoddy drivers that are causing the crashing problems. This one’s on NVIDIA.
From the sounds of it, Pixelmator has been working on the issue with Apple’s engineers, trying to find a nice workaround for the problem. Pixelmator has been researching and trying to fix the bug since 10.8.2 was released a couple of months ago.
If you own a Mac that has any of the following graphics cards, you may be in for a surprise the next time you open up Pixelmator and start putting the boots to your latest designs: NVIDIA GeForce GT120, GTT 320M, GT 330M, 9400M, and GT9600.
If you’re not sure how to check your graphics card, you can hit up the nifty Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen, click About This Mac, then More Info, then check out the Graphics listing.
Pixelmator also announced that version 2.1.4 will be released shortly and it will include a bunch of quality improvements, but it likely won’t include a patch for this bug yet.
