MountainGrowl Integrates Growl With Notification Center

Growl

We all know about Growl — it’s been a vital part of many of our workflows for years. Now that Apple has implemented Notification Center on OS X, the once nigh-on mandatory install of Growl is less useful for Mac users. Well, many apps still use Growl for notifications, and they haven’t been updated to work with Notification Center yet. Similarly, Growl intends on integrating eventually, but there is no need to wait now.

MountainGrowl is a free and open source plug-in for Growl that integrates Growl notifications directly into Notification Center. Now apps like Twitter, Max, and Handbrake, despite only having Growl support, will show up in your Notification Center. They all show the Growl icon, but all of the standard click actions we’ve come to expect from Growl are working.

If you want to try MountainGrowl out for yourself, do the following:

  1. Install Growl.
  2. Download the latest build of Mountain Growl.
  3. Double-click the file, and let Growl install it.
  4. Open the Growl Preferences, and set Mountain Growl as your default display style.

Does this help your migration to Notification Center? Are all of your favorite apps ditching Growl? Sound off by leaving a comment below this post. Let’s talk it out, everyone! I, for one, intend to use this until either Growl officially supports Notification, or each app that I use switches to Notification Center — whichever comes first.
