So, you’ve just installed Mountain Lion, and some things are different. If you skipped Lion altogether, then you’re in for some rather tall mountains to climb from Snow Leopard. Luckily, you don’t have to live with all of the defaults. For years, great apps like TinkerTool and Secrets have made customizing your OS X experience a lot better. Now we have another app to add to that list: Mountain Tweaks.
This app offers tweaks ranging from enabling debug menus to changing the appearance of Calendar. Since so many people complained about the skeumorphic design of Contacts and Calendar, I decided to give its “Remove leather from Calendar in ML” toggle a try. It launched an installer that swaps out the images in the app. It went quickly, finished up, and then I launched the app. It removed the leather all right, but it left the app feeling bizarre and muted. I would not recommend doing that. Don’t believe me? Take a look at a screenshot after the jump. However, the app does offer quite a bit, and it is free. Fredrik Wiker, the 17-year-old Norwegian developer, does ask for donations. If you like the app, you should pony up some cash.
So, are you worried about misconfiguring your system and ruining it? Don’t be afraid. The app does have a restore button that will undo all of its tweaks, and leave your machine in its default state. You’ll be fine.
