Apple has pushed an update for Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. This update brings Java on the Mac inline with Windows by bringing Java up to version 1.6.0 update 24.
For those on Mac OS X 10.5 you are being updated to Java 1.5.0_28 or Java 1.6.0_24 depending on which version is installed. If you’re on a Power-PC or 32-bit Intel Machine, you’ll get 1.5.0_28.
The download comes in at 119.83MB, since both versions are packaged together.
If you’re running on a 64-bit Intel machine, you’ll receive version Java 1.6.0_24.
This update clocks in a 78.2 MB. This update fixes 21 security holes. If you want to read about all of those, you can do so by viewing the Oracle release notes.

For OS X 10.5, the download is available at Apple’s Support page. You will need to be on Mac OS X 10.5.8 to download and install the update.
For those on OS X 10.6, your download is available from Apple. You will need to have OS X 10.6.4 or higher to be able to apply the download.
This is a definite recommend for all Mac OS X users. It should not require a reboot.
