According to new rumors, a new MacBook Pro with Retina display is reportedly in production. This time, though, it will be a smaller 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, and a whopping 2,560-by-1,600 pixel density display, according to NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim who told CNET.
Shim said, “The supply chain indications are that it’s for a MacBook Pro 13.3 — not a MacBook Air.” He added that the displays are being made by Samsung, LG Display, and Sharp and that all three suppliers are expected to produce a higher number of displays than they did for the current 15.4-inch Retina MacBook Pro.
The biggest appeal of a smaller Retina MacBook Pro is likely price, which would probably be quite a bit lower than the $2,100 starting price for the 15.4-inch model. A smaller size would also mean a decrease in weight, making the 13.3-inch model much more portable.
Production for a 13 -nch Retina MacBook Pro is said to have started in the third quarter. If this is the case, it could mean that the smaller Retina MacBook Pro could make its debut this fall.
