Boxcar comes to the Mac

Boxcar, the excellent push notification service for iOS, is now available in beta form for the Mac.

Like its mobile counterpart, the Mac app can monitor your social media accounts, RSS feeds, email accounts and more, alerting you when there’s an update.

Many people (myself included) use Boxcar to provide push notifications for non-official Twitter clients. Having the same type of service on the Mac is very welcome.

The Mac app sits in the menu bar, and collects all incoming notifications in a single panel. Unlike services like Growl, these notifications are collected, and it is easy to scroll back through past updates, in case something got missed.

The app runs very smoothly on my MacBook Pro — it’s hard to find much that shows that this is still in beta. Go grab it now!
