Apple buys for $4.5 million

Apple bought just before relaunching .Mac as MobileMe, and it appears that Apple is at it again. 9to5Mac is reporting that Apple has purchased the domain for $4.5 million from Xcerion.  What does this mean for the cloud music locker that is rumored to be in development? Well, it looks like it will be named iCloud, and the rumors might just turn to fact.

Moreover, does this mean that MobileMe is going away? I don’t think so. I believe that iCloud will be added to MobileMe. You’ll have your mobile syncing service, and then you will have your music locker accessible from As for cost for either service, it’s anyone’s guess at this point. It’s rumored that Apple will charge $20.00 a year for the music locker, but where does that leave MobileMe in pricing? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I feel that Apple will announce the new domain and pricing at WWDC.

When I read this piece I decided to go to to see if it was still there. Well, it is, and it is not. The services that iCloud offers are still there just under a different name. Xcerion has rebranded itself as The site has a very look and feel to it. Check it out for yourself. In any event, things are definitely looking up for Apple’s cloud services. I can’t wait to see what Apple will do with it.
