There were rumors going around recently that Apple wanted to buy Waze in an effort to improve its Maps App, but these rumors were quickly squashed. In actual fact, Waze has gotten its first update of the year, so it looks like the company is carrying on and continuing to make its great application even better.
Waze, the popular community-based traffic and navigation app, received pretty big updates in June and October of last year, but this one is relatively minor in comparison.
The update brings a number of improvements, like deeper social integration, which was first introduced in the October update. In this new version of Waze, there’s a new “share my drive” and “share location” interface. On top of that, the “pick up” option is now available from the navigate screen. The “gas search” option has also been relocated to the main menu.
Here’s a list of other improvements to Waze:
- Recent places shown in main navigate screen
- Preloads route when connected to Wi-Fi
- New call and “beep” features for Facebook friends
- New alerts show friends online, who’s connected, and new friend driving to your destination
- Bugs, stability and design fixes
Waze works with the iPhone, iPod touch, and any iPad running iOS 4.3 or later and you can get the newest updated version of Waze in the App Store now for free.
