After the “horrible” locationgate, Apple reacted with a Q&A on their website explaining what the iPhone’s habit of saving its position is all about and what the collected data is used for. Besides promising a quick fix, Apple also claimed that they will use the date to create an improved traffic service in the next couple of years.
A new job posting on Apple’s website now states that the company is looking for a developer interested in creating new and innovative features.
The post says that the team working on the iOS Maps app is looking for a developer whose tasks would include creating sophisticated user interfaces and new features, which are supposed to influence the post-PC era. Here’s Apple’s job description:
Come work for the team that revolutionized the mobile technology industry as it continues to define what computing looks like in a post-PC era. The Maps team is looking for a proactive and hardworking software engineer to join our team. Along with excellent skills in object-oriented software design and programming, the successful candidate will have real-world experience developing sophisticated user interfaces. Excellent communication skills are also a must, as you will be collaborating closely with Apple’s peerless human interface team to add new and innovative features.
What these “new and innovative features” will be is, obviously, not stated.
Apple’s aforementioned statements about creating a crowd-sourced database that will provide users with traffic information highly suggests something like a turn-by-turn navigation feature within the Maps app or information about the user’s current location, showing, for example, nearby traffic jams so that those can be avoided. We could go on speculating for ages, wondering what Apple will offer its users in future versions of iOS. But that wouldn’t be as much fun as asking you what you think about what’s to come.
