If you wanted to grab yourself an iPhone 4 or 4S and you thought news of Walmart’s recent price drop was gonna be your lucky ticket, you’ll be sorry to hear that it was just a mistake. Reports of the 8 GB iPhone 4 falling from $88 USD to $34 USD and the 16 GB iPhone 4S from $188 USD to $114 USD may have been accurate, but Walmart has issued a statement claiming the deals were “a pricing error in limited stores.” 9to5Mac has a bit more to say about it:
The select stores are apparently selling the latest iOS smartphone at a $74 discount. Wal-Mart’s Web site lists the price of the iPhone 4S at $188, but the price comes with a “store pricing may vary” at select stores note. The 8GB iPhone 4 price tag is also cut by $34 at the two participating Walmart stores, according to the reports.
Before we knew it was unintentional, the drop in price ignited speculation about a new iPhone possibly hitting the market soon. Then again, every time Tim Cook picks broccoli out of his teeth someone posts the new iPhone will ship with a broccoli-tooth-picker, so I wouldn’t get too cranked up about it.
