Tapbot — the developer behind popular clipboard manager Pastebot — has brought another Bot into the family: Tweetbot. Tweetbot had been a distant dream before March 2011, when the company announced via its blog that it had been working on a much sought-after Twitter application, and that Tweetbot was in fact, in beta.
Today, Tweetbot was released in the Japanese App Store, and though we’ve only seen a few screenshots, Tweetbot looks just as nice as we could have imagined. The question is, will it be enough to convince many people to abandon Twitter for iPhone? I say yes, even though Twitter removed the infamous Dickbar from its iPhone App.
This is awesome news for those of you becoming disgruntled with the official Twitter App for the iPhone. I’ve been looking forward to this app coming out for a long time, and as soon as I can get my hands on it, Tweetbot will be taking pride of place in the dock on my iPhone.
I think that we will see a worldwide release within hours, but in the mean time, take a look at some of the features that you can expect to see in Tweetbot, as per the iTunes page:
- Multiple Timelines. Quickly search between your lists as your main timeline.
- Smart Gestures. Use Twitter more efficiently with time-saving and configurable gestures.
- Customizable Navigation. The last 2 tabs are customizable and the last two tabs are easily accessible.
- Support for multiple services like Read it Later, Instapaper, Cloudapp URL Shortening.
- Push Notifications via Boxcar.
- Save Drafts, add locations and POI’s, attach photos and videos, manage your lists, and much more.
So, Tweetbot looks like it is going to have all the features we are used too, and a couple more. I’m looking forward to the customizable navigation and seeing how that can enhance Twitter for me. One thing I’m not overwhelmed about is having to download Boxcar again to receive Push Notifications — but hey, we can’t have it all, can we?
