Earlier this morning Temple Run 2, the sequel to the wildly popular endless running game, landed in the New Zealand App Store. It’s set to launch in the rest of the world, including the U.S., tonight. If the original Temple Run’s success is anything to go by (it was downloaded more than 75 million times in 2012 alone) then Temple Run 2 will be just as thrilling.
Previously, Temple Run-like games have been released , like the Brave version, but this is the first true sequel to by released by the husband and wife duo that make up Imangi Studios.
In Temple Run 2, you’ll see the key components that really make Temple Run what it is: after taking the idol, you’re chased (this time by one giant creature) and you have to use a combination of swipes and tilts to jump, slide and collect coins.
But there are some notable differences that make Temple Run 2 a version of its own. The game takes place just before sunset. Unlike Temple Run, the sequel’s course takes you on curvy and hilly paths. You’ll go down zip lines and even ride in a mine cart.
If you haven’t already tried Temple Run, I would highly suggest giving it a go. It’s a free download from the App Store, just like Temple Run 2 will be when it lands in the U.S. App Store. While you’re waiting, you can check out the video above to see what you have to look forward to once it goes live in App Stores around the world.
