After weeks of delay, Japanese electronic maker, Sharp, has reportedly begun shipping the new iPhone 5 screens, according to the Wall Street Journal. Mass production of the liquid crystal display panels began earlier this week at Sharp’s factory in Japan.
In August, Sharp’s president announced that it would be shipping the screens later that month, but production and shipping were delayed due to manufacturing difficulties. The exact problem wasn’t revealed.
With Sharp now delivering the screens, it could put some worries to rest that Apple won’t have enough parts to meet demand for the new iPhone. Sharp is one of three suppliers of the iPhone 5 screens, alongside Japan Display and South Korea’s LG Display.
As revealed yesterday, the new iPhone 5 measures four inches in length with a thinner screen than previous iPhones thanks to the new in-cell technology. Pre-orders for the new iPhone will begin on Friday, September 14, and will be available in stores on September 21.
