The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Verizon Wireless is confident its network won’t succumb to the iPhone like AT&T’s has.
Really confident, it seems:
Verizon Wireless, the country’s largest wireless carrier, is confident enough in its network that it will offer unlimited data-use plans when it starts selling the iPhone around the end of this month, a person familiar with the matter said. Such plans would provide a key means of distinguishing its service from rival AT&T Inc., which limits how much Internet data such as videos and photos its customers may use each month.
Currently, AT&T iPhone customers have two options — 200 MB for $15/month or 2 GB for $25/month. The carrier used to offer an unlimited data plan, but discounted it several months ago.
Oddly, Verizon currently has a 5 GB cap on their data plans for other smart phones, like the Droid X. Time will tell if that plan will remain in place, or if unlimited data will be limited to iPhone customers only.
