The original Angry Birds for iPhone and iPad was first released back in 2009, and has since gone on to become the number one app of all time. However, with so many new versions of the popular iOS game (Star Wars, Space, Bad Piggies, etc.), the original version’s popularity has slipped. So in an effort to increase downloads, Rovio has decided to make both the iPhone and iPad versions of the original Angry Birds free for the first time ever.
Rovio’s move comes at about the same time that it’s been noted that, for the first time since May 2010, no Rovio games are in the Top 80 highest grossing iPhone apps.
Usually Angry Birds, which has just been named App of the Week, is $0.99 on the iPhone and $2.99 on the iPad. While downloading the game is free, there are still options for in-app purchases (go figure).
Along with this price tag change, Rovio has also added 15 new levels to the game. If you haven’t gotten around to playing the original Angry Birds (but really, who hasn’t?) then now is a good time to do it!
