Meet Mailbox from Mailbox on Vimeo.
On Tuesday, upcoming email app “Mailbox” began taking reservations to help manage the expected demand when the app finally becomes available on the App Store in the coming weeks. For those that don’t know, Mailbox got a lot of attention last month when it released a video showing off some of the cool features of the app.
This is no ordinary email app though. Mailbox’s main inbox shows conversations in a priority order, lettings users focus on their most important emails first. Less important emails can be sent to a “Later” inbox to deal with at another time. Emails that have been dealt with can be filtered into an archive folder.
Mailbox also offers a set of “snooze buttons” that move emails from the main inbox to the “Later” inbox when activated. You can choose from a number of snooze options like “Later Today,” “This Weekend,” “Next Week,” or “Someday” that brings the emails back to your inbox at a predetermined time. The Snooze settings are easily customizable, so you have complete control over your emails. To move emails around or set snooze times, users use left and right swipe gestures.
The only downside of the app at the moment is that it only supports Gmail, but the creators of the app have said that support for other services will be coming at some point.
The exact release date for the Mailbox app isn’t clear, but the company is now taking reservations on a first-come first-served basis. When you reserve your spot, Mailbox will send an SMS message with a reservation number on it and a private code will be issued, which you’ll need to claim the app when it’s your turn.
