On Friday reports suggested that Apple’s Retina-ready iPad mini wouldn’t be launching until 2014 and DigiTimes has released a new report today confirming that this is the case. According to DigiTimes, Apple will release a slightly-redesigned iPad mini without Retina later this year and will hold off until the following year to launch the much anticipated iPad mini with Retina display.
According to DigiTimes, though, it’ll be worth the wait. The Retina iPad mini is expected to feature an “almost bezel-free” design. “Apple is reportedly aiming to use Retina panel technology equipped with 2,048 by 1,536 resolution in the next generation 7.9-inch iPad mini. Apple is also said to be revising the design of the chassis to give the next-generation iPad mini an almost bezel-free look,” the report said.
In the meantime, Apple is said to release the second-generation non-Retina iPad mini this fall, which is expected to feature some slight changes in design. It’s rumored to be lighter, thinner, and equipped with improved specifications.
The report also mentions the fifth-generation iPad, which will also feature a thinner and lighter design similar to that of the iPad mini. Production of the iPad is reportedly set to begin this month on a smaller scale, but will pick up in the coming months.
