Apple released an update to their MobileMe Gallery App on Friday, bringing it to version 1.2. It now supports Retina Displays, fast app switching on iOS 4 devices, and is a universal app with full iPad support.
Interestingly, Apple has added the ability to view MobileMe galleries without having a MobileMe account. Previously you had to be a MobileMe subscriber in order to view your friends’ galleries, but now this is no longer the case.
On the iPad, the application gives you a nice lightbox type layout, similar to what you would see in iPhoto, and also provides a nice multiphoto landing page of recent photos. You can choose from your galleries that you’ve created in your MobileMe account, and of course you can view each photo individually in full screen mode.
As a professional photographer, the combination of an iPad with your MobileMe gallery would make a killer portfolio replacement. Always up to date and with you wherever you go, ready if any opportunity presents itself. For families, the ability to easily share memories in a beautiful layout, without having to make them sign up for an account is a plus.
The MobileMe Gallery app is free and available on the App Store.
