According to a new report from the NPD Group, iPhone users tend to use far more data than their Android counterparts. According to the report, iPhone users on Sprint, AT&T and Verizon average 1.30GB, 1.16GB and 1.55GB of data usage per month, respectively. T-Mobile iPhone users used only 0.49GB of data per month on average, but that’s because T-Mobile isn’t an official iPhone carrier in the United States. Android users, on the other hand, only averaged 0.95GB of data on Sprint, 0.82GB on AT&T and 0.65GB on Verizon every month. T-Mobile Android users consumed around 1.28GB of data per month on average. Overall, iPhone users consume an average of 1.12GB of data per month while Android users use a mere 0.92GB per month on average.
NPD Group got ahold of this information by examining 1,500 wireless accounts across, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon from the months of October 2012 to January 2013. These accounts consisted of a mix of iOS and Android users.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of iPhone users using their phones more than Android users. Last November, IBM reported that iPhone and iPad users accounted for 18.5% of worldwide web traffic while Android phones and tablets only accounted for 5.5% of traffic.
