iOS 6 Beta Gets Genius Recommendations

Are you getting excited for the launch of iOS 6? Who isn’t, right? Well, we have some good news! Macworld is reporting that Genius Recommendations for iOS 6 have finally been turned on in the developer betas.

While Ashleigh Allsopp at Macworld says that this “[indicates] that the upcoming mobile operating system’s final release is imminent,” we don’t expect iOS 6 to drop until the end of the month — right alongside the new iPhone. We wouldn’t mind being wrong, though. Brand new maps, file uploads in Safari, new Siri functions, Passbook, and single-app mode leaves us drooling in anticipation.

Interestingly, this update is likely powered under the covers by the recommendation engine Chomp that Apple bought back in February of this year. Instead of the old interface, this new Genius interface is card-based, allowing you to quickly swipe through recommended apps. This interface shows off the title, the price, a screenshot of the app, its rating, and the reason behind the recommendation. This a substantial step up from the current layout.

For now, we sit back and wait. Although if you can’t wait to try out all the great new features in iOS 6, you can always sign up for an Apple Developer account. For the low, low price of $99 USD, you can be running iOS 6 on your device today. Be prepared for bugs, though. I, for one, will be waiting for the general release.
