As is common with every modern sporting event nowadays, there’s an accompanying app for fans. The French Open is no exception. Officially titled ‘Roland-Garros 2011 – French Open, ’ the app is available across all iOS devices. This means no matter where you are you’ll have the latest scores at your fingertips.
The feature list is as expected:
- Real-time scores, point by point
- Live text matches and video highlight roundups
- News, photo galleries, interviews and behind-the-scenes coverage
- Competition results and future round draws
- Player biographies
- Visitors’ guide and stadium maps
It’s available in two languages (French and English).
When it comes to downsides, it’s a shame the live match coverage is limited to text (presumably because of TV rights issues), but it’s handy for an overview of concurrently running matches – switching between video feeds would drain the battery and take longer to load.
Regarding video highlights and recordings, you’re stuck with a complete overview of the day’s matches rather than being able to choose individual match highlights. The functionality is basic, but it’s a quicker way than searching through Safari for results.
On the plus side, it’s completely free and works great on both the iPhone and iPad.
