Just a day after Twitter added filters to its iOS and Android applications, Flickr has announced that it’s bringing filters and a new user interface to its mobile apps. This update has been a long time coming as Flickr’s iPhone app hasn’t received an update since December of 2011. Flickr 2.0 has just been pushed to users today and features a complete redesign that kind of resembles that of Instagram. The Flickr app also received 16 new photo filters that allow you to make your photos look vintage. After you’ve taken a photo and applied a filter, you can instantly upload it to your Flickr account.
It’s a nice update for Flickr, but it’s hard not to see this as anything else but a desperate move to revive a brand that’s been lagging behind the competition for years. How many apps do we need that let us add filters to our photos? It’s getting to be a bit much.
