Facebook Updates Messenger App With New Group Chat Features

Facebook hasĀ pushed an update for the Facebook Messenger application. This update brings the application to version 2.3 and has introduced an improved group chat system. Users can now change the topic of the conversation by tapping on the top of the conversation. You can also swipe to the left to view your current group chats alongside your favorite contacts. The search function within the swipe-out window now supports the searching of group chats. You’ll be able to search for a conversation by friends in the chat or by the chat’s name.

The app’s icon has also changed and features a new, blueprint-style design. While I personally like the app’s new icon, I think it may have been added to the update by accident. It looks a bit “dev”y and is not included in the app’s change log, but we could be wrong.

This isn’t the first major Facebook Messenger update we’ve seen over the past few months. Just last month we saw Facebook add voice messenger to the Messenger app and we also saw both iOS and Android users in Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Egypt, India, Ireland, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Philippines, Portugal, Thailand and Saudi Arabia be able to use free or discounted data rates.
