Ralph de la Vega, AT&T’s CEO, recently released a statement on the iPhone 5 upgrade process. In the statement he addressed the question all of us long-time iPhone users had on our minds: “can I keep my unlimited data plan?” Well, luckily for us, he answered the question in our favor. Ralph confirmed that all existing iPhone data plans will work with the upcoming iPhone 5 even if you decide to renew your two-year contract and take advantage of subsidized pricing. We offer customers the flexibility to keep the iPhone data plans they already have or choose any of our individual or new Mobile Share plans. We’re proud that more customers choose AT&T for iPhone than any other U.S. carrier and look forward to making iPhone 5 the newest addition to our lineup.
Even more good news: AT&T previously announced that users of the grandfathered unlimited plan will have their throttling cap lifted from 3GB to 5GB when upgrading from a 3G/HSPA+ phone to a 4G LTE device. Sounds like a win/win situation to us.
Well, it looks as if AT&T made a customer-friendly decision for once.
