AT&T has introduced a new mobile app that lets AT&T U-Verse TV customers control their TV with voice and gesture controls through their iPhone or iPad. The app, U-Verse Easy Remote App, is available for free on the iTunes Store.
The U-Verse Easy Remote App uses AT&T’s Watson speech recognition technology to recognize and understand words spoken to it. It can even learn different accents and individual speech patterns for better accuracy.
In using AT&T’s U-Verse Easy Remote App, you can control your U-Verse TV with simple voice commands, like channel up, replay, or record, or by saying the name of a TV show or channel number. You can also use gestures, like swiping left and right or up and down, to change the channel or adjust the volume.
AT&T really developed the U-Verse Easy Remote to help those with hearing and vision impairments and physical disabilities. Font sizes are adjustable and the app will also read out show titles and channel information as you scroll through the programming guide.
AT&T began working on this app in August of 2011 and looked for input from a panel of experts in assistive technology, aging and disability issues. The U-Verse Easy Remote is only available for iOS devices right now, but AT&T has said that the ultimate goal is to offer the app to all customers, regardless of operating system.
