Rebecca Black has become famous for singing, “It’s Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday!” So let’s give the YouTube sensation what she wants — geek style of course. It’s time to ‘get down’ with some app action. This week we are featuring apps that make your life easier, and with the weekend on our heels, carpe diem! (It means ‘seize the day,’ if you didn’t know.)
Table of Contents
The iPhone/iPod Touch: Songza
Songza wants to be your personal music concierge and I’m all for it. This is one of the coolest music apps I’ve seen in awhile.
Based on the day of the week and time of day, the app offers you six possible scenarios that you could be in during that time. They’re true to real life and also kind of funny. You pick which one fits your current situation and then you’re given a selection of playlists that match your mood. The interface is easy to use and nice to look at. Feeling social? Log in using Facebook so you can easily let your friends know what you’re listening to.
If you’re a music lover, love things being made easy for you and enjoy discovering new music, this free app will be your new best friend. We’re already BFF’s.

The iPad: PicFrame
PicFrame is the Cadillac of easy-to-use photo collage making apps. (I’m not great with car metaphors but I’m basically trying to say I think it’s the bomb diggity.) I’ve gone through more than my fair share and am now a dedicated PicFramer. You can be too for only $0.99.
This app lets you easily combine multiple photos into your choice of over 67 fully adjustable frames. It supports up to 9 photos, text labels, rounded corners, photo effects and tonnes of border color/frame options. Share the images via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr and even send the image to another app like my beloved Instagram.

The Mac: Flutter
Ok, so this is pretty cool. Flutter allows to you play and pause your music with a simple hand gesture. Using your built-in web cam, you hold out your palm (think a “talk to the hand” kind of thing) and it will magically play and pause your music. It currently works with Spotify, iTunes, Quicktime and VLC. It promises to include YouTube, Netflix, Pandora and Hulu next. The developers are working on taking things to the next level where you’ll be able to skip songs, mute songs and control volume, all with simple hand gestures.
Whether you’re in the kitchen cooking, working at the office or just trying to look like a tech ninja in front your friends, it’s a quick way to control your music and it’s free. Yeah, free. So just go and get it.

Game Of The Week: Agent Dash
Agent Dash (that’s you) is on a mission to destroy the bases of his villainous enemies. Using simple swipe motions, you control character movements to collect points and avoid obstacles. But it’s not as simple as it sounds. The game moves pretty fast so pay close attention or you’ll run into a rock wall or get tripped up by a toxic spill like I did the first time playing. Spend in-game cash on new characters, skins, boosts and bonuses that give you a head start. If you’re a competitive gamer, you can compete with your friends via Facebook integration.
The graphics on this game are top notch, options are extensive and the challenges are fun. Try out this free game this weekend and let us know what you think in the comments section below!
