Apple’s Updated App Store Terms Spark Concern For App Promotion Services

Apple’s Terms and Conditions for the App Store have recently been updated, and a new clause has sparked some concern that Apple might be killing off the way apps advertise other apps and promotions within their own app. This could be troublesome for promotion app services like FreeAppADay.

The new clause says, “Apps that display Apps other than your own for purchase or promotion in a manner similar to or confusing with the App Store will be rejected.”

According to Pocketgamer.biz, the new clause “appears to give Apple carte blanche to put any app that promotes titles from a different developer out of action.” Although the wording is vague, Apple appears to want to restrict app promotion services to “maintain the legitimacy of the App Store charts.”

For the moment, though, app promotion services seem unaffected by the new Terms and Services. This new clause is not the first change to come to the App Store, as Apple has completely redesigned it in iOS 6. It will be interesting to see how, and if, this new clause will affect third-party app promotion services.
