TechCrunch is reporting that Apple has begun to reject iOS applications that make use of the unique device identifier, or UDID. Several developers have had their apps rejected in the past week, and Apple is looking at ramping up their enforcement of this policy in the coming weeks.
What policy, you ask? Well, it’s not like this snuck up out of nowhere. Apple notified developers way back in the middle of August that the use of UDIDs would be deprecated in iOS 5, after taking heat via lawsuits. It suggested that developers look for alternative methods of tracking hardware within their own code.
If you’re a developer hoping to slip an app in before Apple cracks down on this policy, you’re out of luck. Time to start looking for alternative solutions.
