With yesterday’s introduction of iCloud and the feature to automatically push purchased apps to all your iOS devices, Apple also introduced a new “Purchased” section within the iOS App Store.
The new function went live right after the WWDC keynote finished and lets you re-download apps you’ve bought before. Including apps that are not available on the App Store anymore, it seems.
If you go to the purchased section in the App Store (it’s within the Updates tab), you can see a list of all apps you’ve ever purchased. As MacStories points out, even apps that are no longer available on the App Store are listed, like the original Tweetie app (which is now known as Twitter for iPhone/iPad).
However, the guys and girls over at Cult of Mac report that this is only true for those apps that have been removed by their developers (e.g. Tweetie or Instapaper Free), but not those who have been removed by Apple for violating the App Store’s rules.
It is also not possible to download the old app if you have updated it to a newer version instead of downloading the new version separately. So, if you have updated Tweetie to the Twitter app, you won’t be able to download Tweetie again. But if you have downloaded the Twitter app separately, and owned Tweetie before, you can re-download Tweetie now.
