Apple is spreading a little more festive cheer than usual this year, bringing its annual “12 Days of Gifts” giveaway app to U.S. iOS users for the first time.
First launched in 2008, the “12 Days” campaign offers one free item to download each day from either the iBooks, iTunes or App Store.
Previous years gifts have included a range of goodies, with music from Coldplay, Michael Bublé, Kings of Leon and David Guetta, episodes of TV shows such as Top Gear, Doctor Who and House, books like Life of Pi and Lonely Planet Travel Guides, along with various apps like Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing and EA’s Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed.
Originally the “12 Days” promotion, previously known as “12 Days of Christmas”, only offered free iTunes music downloads and was available solely to users in Europe. However, over the past several years the promotion has expanded, offering a wider variety of content to a growing number of countries including Russia, Canada and Japan.
This year the renamed 64.7MB universal iPhone and iPad “12 Days of Gifts” application makes its U.S. debut, sporting a new design and app icon, along with being available to only those running iOS7.
The first gift will be accessible for 24-hours via the app on Thursday, December 26th, and then each and every day until January 6th a new item will be made available.
