Tumblr, the popular microblogging service, has just released an official native iPad app. The app allows Tumblr users to update their blogs as well as browse through their Tumblr feeds and search for new content. Tumblr for iPad looks very similar to its iPhone counterpart in terms of user interface. Tumblr users can upload photos and videos to their blog directly from their iPad as well. For those of you who actually write on your Tumblr blog, you’ll be happy to know that both the iPhone and iPad versions of the Tumblr app now support Markdown, a minimal text-to-HTML language, when creating blog posts. Tumblr for iPad also features an always-there sidebar, which seems to be popular among today’s social apps like Path. This sidebar houses buttons for creating new blog posts as well as buttons for quick access to the Dashboard, Explore, Notifications and Account menus.
Personally, I’m glad that Tumblr has finally released an iPad app as I prefer to browse social content on my iPad over my Mac or iPhone. Tumblr’s new app will likely get me to check my Tumblr feed as well as post to Tumblr more often. Heck, when Path released an iPad app last month, I started actively using the service again. You can grab Tumblr for iPad for free via the App Store.
