Which? Tech Daily, a UK based tech blog, has conducted a variety of battery tests on the iPad as well as many Android alternatives. The blog found that Apple’s iPad with Retina display smoked the competition by giving its testers 811 minutes of battery life when surfing the web on a Wi-Fi connection. This beat the iPad 2 by over three hours in battery life as it received only 590 minutes of battery life during the same test, though it still beat all of the Android and Windows tablets that were tested. The iPad mini averaged 783 minutes of battery life.
The other tablets tested include the Microsoft Surface with Windows RT, which scored 501 minutes, and Sony’s Xperia Tablet S, which benchmarked 534 minutes. Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD scored 591 minutes while Google’s own Nexus 7 scored only 550 minutes of battery life while browsing the web via Wi-Fi. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 scored only 531 minutes.
By the way, Which? Tech Daily made sure that all of the tablets were tested in the same exact conditions by using tools such as a light meter to adjust screen brightness. Which? Tech Daily set “the screen brightness to 200 nits (measured using a light meter) before performing each task, so every tablet has to perform in the same conditions.”
All things being equal, it looks like the iPad wins this round. Though, if we had to make an educated guess, we would have assumed the iPad mini would have won the battery war. That thing just keeps on ticking and ticking and ticking.
