Patently Apple is reporting that the iPad production process is expected to drastically improve in 2013. Pegatron, a manufacturing company that recently began producing iPads and iPad minis for Apple, is expected to grow by 40 percent in 2013. The Chinese manufacturing company began working with Apple before the release of the iPad mini, removing the sole responsibility from Apple’s other manufacturer, Foxconn.
Pegatron reportedly plans to increase its number of iPad manufacturing plants from three to seven over the course of 2013. Pegatron was said to have been in charge of producing roughly 50 percent of Apple’s iPad minis, with Foxconn making the other 50 percent. With this increase in the company’s size, Pegatron’s role will likely continue to increase in importance.
One problem that consistently plagues Apple’s product launches is keeping manufacturing caught up with demand. This was a significant issue with both the iPhone 5 and iPad mini launches, and one that Apple is constantly looking to diminish. With this increase in manufacturing power, the next iPad release may be the smoothest Apple launch yet.
