It looks like the next-generation iPad might not be launching alongside its mini counterpart. According to a new report from DigiTimes, the next major update for the full-sized iPad will be released several months ahead of a new iPad mini.
DigiTimes claims that volume production of the next-generation iPad will start in July-August with an estimated five million shipments in the third quarter. The next-generation iPad mini, on the other hand, will see its volume production postponed from September to November.
Market watchers say the iPad mini’s launch delay is because the first-generation iPad mini really dominated and sales of the full-sized iPad were really impacted in 2012. To prevent the next-generation iPad mini from eclipsing sales again, Apple will release the new full-sized iPad first.
Others, however, think the delay is a result of the supply chain not be able to meet the mass-production schedule, so who really knows for sure.
Although still unconfirmed, the next-generation iPad is expected to be 20-30% lighter with thinner bezels on the side, adopting an iPad mini-like design.
