Right on time! Apple has sent out invitations to a select group of journalists (Not Macgasm staff *cough cough*) for what is clearly an iPad event scheduled for Tuesday, March 7th.
Jim Dalrymple:
As expected, Apple on Tuesday announced an event to show off the company’s next generation iPad. The invitation, sent to me by Apple, says the event will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.
Now is the time to start placing bets for what the iPad 3 will feature. The safest bets are a Retina display and a faster CPU and GPU. A RAM bump is slightly less of a safe assumption, and Siri would surprise a lot of people. Significantly better cameras would be nice, but better sensors and lenses are pretty pricey. Of course, there is always the possibility that they will pull something out that will drop our jaws, but we would be happy with just a faster iPad 2 with a Retina display — the conceptual product canonically known as an iPad 2S.
What do you think we’ll be seeing? Is the Retina display a lock? Are we finally going to get a camera that doesn’t suck? Sound off in the comment section below this post, or hit us up on Twitter. Our username is @macgasm, and we want to hear from you.
